Out of sight to most residents of the city, work is underway this month on a major addition to the Holiday Inn Steamboat Springs.

Crews under the supervision of general contractor Holmquist Lorenz Construction are framing the addition of 35 suites and an indoor swimming pool to the 82-room hotel on U.S. Highway 40.

The addition is on the east side of the building and barely visible to motorists passing on the highway. The construction site is on a two-acre parcel that was already under the ownership of hotel owner Scott Marr prior to construction planning.

Marr said the new addition would provide two-room suites in addition to his inventory of traditional hotel rooms, creating appeal for ski vacationers.

“They’ll have little kitchens with microwaves and a small fridge,” Marr told Steamboat Today last spring.
In addition to the indoor pool, a 1,000-square-foot fitness center is being built. The two-story addition comprises 20,000 square feet.

The original Holiday Inn Steamboat Springs was built in 1973. A 35,000-square-foot addition was built in 1989.
