The North Routt Community Charter School opened for the 2001-02 School year after it was approved by the Colorado Board of Education. The small charter School serves students living in areas north of Steamboat Springs, primarily the Clark, Hahn's Peak and Steamboat Lake areas. It has an elementary school with grades one through five, and middle school, with grades six through eight. For the 2007-08 school year, the elementary school had an enrollment of 38 students. It earned an Average rating for its Academic Performance in the 2007-08 School Accountability Report. For the same year, the middle school had an enrollment of 12 students and earned an High rating in the School Accountability Report. School facilities are located in the town of Clark, approximately 17 miles north of Steamboat. The school recently (2003) renovated its multi-purpose building and built a new playground. The charter school in 2007-08 employed three full-time and one part-time teacher. The school's principal, Colleen Poole, has been with the school since 2003.
