Steamboat Springs High School sits on a large piece of property a couple blocks north of downtown Steamboat Springs. The School, which underwent an extensive renovation in 1995, educated approximately 677 students during the 2007-08 school year. Formerly the school's Assistant Principal, Kevin Knezevich has been principal of the high school since 2004. Steamboat Springs High School teachers average 10 years of teaching experience. As of the 2007-08 school year, the school had 38 full-time and 17 part-time teachers. Biology teacher Cindy Gay was named Colorado’s Outstanding Biology Teacher in 2003. The school earned an Excellent rating for its Academic Performance rating in Colorado's 2007-08 School Accountability Report. This is the highest rating a school can earn. The School offers students a variety of extracurricular activities including a wide array of School-sponsored sports in the Colorado High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A Western Slope League. Among sports offered at the School are football, volleyball, golf, tennis, soccer, hockey, wrestling, basketball, lacrosse, baseball and skiing.
