Located northwest of downtown Steamboat Springs in Strawberry Park and adjacent to Strawberry Park Elementary School, Steamboat Springs Middle School serves all district sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.

Colorado rated the School’s Academic Performance as Excellent in the state’s 2007-08 School Accountability Report, a statewide effort to hold Schools accountable for student progress and achievement. This rating is the highest that a school can receive.

Enrollment at the school during the 2007-08 school year was 462 students. The school's staff of 63 includes 23 full-time and 17 part-time teachers, keep student-to-teacher rations between around 16 to 1.

Principal Timothy Bishop has been with the school since 1999. His teachers have an average of about 13 years' experience.
